Little Boy Blue Sugar Cookies!

There’s something amazing about sugar cookies. They come out looking exactly the same way they look when they go in the oven. I have always loved sugar cookies and one of my friends is having a baby shower for her baby boy! There’s no better time than now to make some boy friendly sugar cookies!

Plus, I have been looking for an excuse to use these cookie cutters from Fred & Friends for ages. I got these as a gift a while ago for Christmas and I never seem to make sugar cookies. I am so excited to make little boy blue sugar cookies! The cookie cutters had pre-made bite marks! They were “ABC* Cookies”!

*ABC stands for Already Been Chewed

Blue Raspberry Sugar Cookies - ABC Cookie Cutters

I’m using the same jello trick that I used when making Orange Creamsicle cupcakes and the PB&J Cupcake. Instead of using sugar, I used 2 boxes of Blue Raspberry Jello powder and combined it with regular white sugar until I reached the needed amount of sugar.

The cookies came out with a beautiful blue hue and tastes just like Blue Raspberry! And look at how funny the cookie cutter is! Not only do they look amazing, the color really came through!

Adapted from All Recipes
(
Now, this recipe makes an insane amount of cookies. I would half the original that makes approx. 5 dozen)

1 Β½ cups of butter
2 boxes of blue raspberry jello powder (not the low calorie one)
Sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
5 cups of flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt

Pour the jello in a measuring cup and fill it with regular sugar until you get 2 cups (this may vary with the brand of jello). In a large bowl, cream the butter and the sugar mixture. Beat in the eggs and vanilla.

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt; stir with the wet ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Roll out the dough on a well floured surface until 1/2 cm to 1 cm thick (1/4 – 1/2 inch thick). Cut into shapes with your cookie cutter of choice and place on an ungreased cookie sheet, about 2 cms (1 inch) apart.

Bake for 6 minutes. Check the cookies often; if they are in the oven too long, they will char and change color. Carefully cool on a rack.

  1. I’m glad you explained about your cookie cutter – I thought you’d been tasting them all. That is such a cute idea. I am thinking of baking suitable nibblies for a new mother to serve her visitors and have spent a lot of time looking for something. This is another recipe I can use, but wish I had a cutter like yours. Oh well, at least they will be tasty. Thanks for bringing these to Fiesta Friday.

  2. Oh my gosh! These are just the cutest cookies I have seen. Your idea of how to get the colour is awesome. So glad that you told us about the cookie cutter. I had imagined having to bite off a limb of each of the cookies (not that that would be so awful ). Thanks so much for bringing these cookies to FF! πŸ˜€

  3. How adorable! I always have problems with sugar cookies, no matter what recipe I try they always spread. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong! I had to make a bajallion heart shaped cookies decorated with royal icing (another thing I have no talent with!) for my dad’s wedding, was a nightmare! I ended up recutting the spread cookies with the cutter after they were baked! I will have to try your recipe and see if it works for me!

  4. I am a big collector of “gingerbread” items ranging from over 2 dozen cookie cutters to a Christmas tree filled with only gingerbread ornaments. Hard to believe I do not have these cookie cutters so thanks for sharing. I just ordered a set from Amazon! I make sugar cookies for many occasions and they are probably my family’s favorite cookie. I love your idea of using jello powder to color the cookies – I will definitely be making these cookies πŸ™‚
