Italian Hazelnut Florentines and the Granville Island Market

Recently, I was down in Granville Island for a wedding and between the ceremony and the reception, I decided to hang around and explore one of my favorite places on earth. The Granville Island Market. It is just a beautiful place and a bit of a culinary heaven, in my books. I completely forgot to take good photos of anything and really just took random cell phone photos.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Icing

I have been dreading this, but the time has come.

Pumpkin Spice Season.

Don’t get me wrong. I love pumpkins, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I just hate what it represents. It’s the Grim Reaper of Summer. Even though something wonderful occurs at the start of pumpkin season, it nevertheless ushers in the inevitable heartbreak of the end of summer.

But to honor the upcoming fall season, I decided to suck it up and make some Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes for the Cops for Cancer ride of Northern BC.

Fridge Clearing Cheese Buns

So last week has been a little hectic for me. I had to make super rushed trip back home to see my husband back home and as soon as I got there, we had to make a long roadtrip to Southern Central BC for a family reunion.

We love road trips. We do them often, and friends and family are always worth it. The only problem is that for a 12 hour road trip, we end up eating terribly. Along the way, it’s usually McDonalds, Tim Hortons or gas station snacks. So if we are going to be eating badly, we might as well make it worth it, right?

So naturally, I made Cheese buns!

Black Pepper Cheddar Scones

I have a soft spot for a good delicious scone. I just can’t help it. They are supposed to be light, fluffy and they crumble in the most delightful way possible. When I’m at a coffee shop, I will always scour the scone selection and I get so excited when I peruse their flavours. It is unfortunate that not every place can make a good scone though. So many times, cafe’s seem to overbake, over knead or over… something. This is probably why I have been so hesitant to make scones for so long.

And to change the subject completely for a moment, what’s the difference between scones and biscuits?

PB&J Cupcakes!

It’s a bittersweet occasion today. Our good friends are moving away and I can honestly say that I am going to miss them dearly. In celebration to their greener pastures, all of our friends and family are throwing them a spectacular (child friendly) going away party in their honour! Since I know their kids are a huge fan of Peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches, I have made Peanut Butter and Jelly Cupcakes!
